January 2026

Hi Guest,
Happy New Year to you, and welcome to the January Training Newsletter!
I hope you had a good Christmas and were able to rejoice in the joy of the season. The new year has brought with it some incredibly cold weather, and although some may complain, there is the joy of SNOW! For some, this means snow days with children off school, or trying to stay warm while keeping energy bills low. I, however, do not get a snow day and have been busy organising the spring programme (although given the weather, maybe it should be the winter programme).
First, we have our Being a Treasurer: the Basics course, which over 3 sessions gives you a look at what it means to be a treasurer, great for first-time treasurers or those looking for a refresher.
Second, we have a course which has been asked for ever since the new SORP was announced. Mark Heaton, ACAT Director and Chair of ACIE, will be providing an introduction to the new Charities SORP and hopefully dispelling the myth that it’s complicated.
Third, we have Dan Field running another Gift Aid course. Come and get a guide on how to correctly reclaim as much Gift Aid as possible, including what donations can (and cannot) be Gift Aided, and the records that need to be kept.
Lastly, we have a session being run by one of our partners, Unity Trust Bank, who will be offering their expertise to talk about banking, giving you a quick overview and answering all of your questions. More details about this will be available soon, but save the date: 24 March 12.30pm – 1.30pm.
More courses will be added to our website soon, so do keep checking it out and book onto any of the courses mentioned if interested. I hope the new year has started well and pray God’s peace over all you do.

Administration Officer (Training)

Are you grappling with the new changes presented by the introduction of the new SORP?
With the new SORP being released last year, many churches are scratching their heads, wondering just what it all means in the real world, and how it’s going to affect the way they have to do their financial reporting. We’ve put together this introductory course to give you a clear idea of what the new SORP means for you and your church. The course explains the key changes in a clear, practical way, helping you approach them with confidence and peace of mind. As our course leads put it, “It’s not as complicated as it appears.”
Who is it for?
For all those involved in preparing their church’s accounts on an accruals basis and those wishing to understand the changes the new SORP brings.
