A MAJOR new programme designed to help Christians explore and make ethical choices around money has been launched.
The Money Makes Change programme has been launched by The Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility – ECCR – one of ACAT’s Partners in Ministry.
It is intended to help people understand how the daily decisions they make about money can impact our neighbours, locally and globally, and all of God’s creation.
It seeks to open up conversations about how individual Christians and churches spend, save and invest, and inspires action to create a fairer world through our finances.
The programme includes a resource for small groups which offers an accessible conversation-based introduction to questions of money and faith.
A handbook for facilitators and accompanying handouts and worksheets can be downloaded for free from ECCR’s website here.
Over the next few months, a number of other resources will be launched including Bible studies, creative all-age materials and a resource for churches to take practical action.
Janie Oliver, Executive Director of ECCR, said: “It’s important to remember, while individually we may have little, we still have the power to make positive things happen with our money.
“When we act together, our power increases dramatically.
“Imagine what a difference we could make if every Christian chose to bank with an ethical bank and invested their pension and savings in companies working to better our planet.”
ECCR was inspired to launch Money Makes Change following its work in recent years, specifically their regional pilot project entitled Ethical Money Churches, which worked with churches in the South West and the West Midlands in exploring these issues.
