ACAT Annual Conferences & AGM 2018

We were pleased to welcome many of you to the ACAT Annual Conference for 2018 which was held in London and Manchester on 13th October and 14th November 2018.

ACAT welcomed the following speakers at our recent Conference: –

Andrew Banks

Andrew is a partner and Head of Court and Regulatory Team at national law firm Stone King LLP. He is an experienced criminal practitioner who practices in Crown Court and Magistrates Court representing a range of clients, including regarding regulatory breaches by PLC’s to private individuals. Andrew is also the firm’s Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP), ensuring that there is a culture of compliance and effective risk management throughout the firm, and is a trustee of support charity Mentoring Plus.  

Susan Robinson (Speaking in London)

Susan is a partner and Head of Charities and Not for Profit at Kreston Reeves LLP. She has over 25 years’ experience in the sector as an auditor, independent examiner and adviser. She lectures on various topics and hold the ICAEW charity diploma. She is trustee of Age UK Medway and ACIE.

Neil Finlayson

Neil is a partner and Head of Not for Profit at the Chartered Accountants Kingston Smith.

Ed Christian

Ed is the Client Relationship Manager for our main sponsor, CCLA. Responsible for managing relationships with clients, Ed joined CCLA in May 2018. Prior to this Ed was a senior investment manager at JM Finn, having worked at the firm for a total of 12 years, where he managed multi-asset portfolios on behalf of private individuals, charities, trusts and small companies. During this time, he had responsibility for the quoted infrastructure sector.

Ed is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and has a BA in Politics from Newcastle University.

Ian Barrett (Speaking in Manchester)

Ian is a chartered accountant and a Fellow of ACIE. He is a partner in a firm of accountants, which he started twenty six years ago, based in Newton Abbot, Devon. He is a general practitioner and over the last few years has built up a client base of approximately 60 charities, churches and other not for profit organisations to which he provides accountancy services, Independent Examination and advice. Ian has been a trustee of ACIE for 3 ½ years and chair since July 2017.

Nick Donaldson

Nick studied modern languages and then Christian theology at university.  He joined the Charity Commission in 2007 as a member of the Large Charities Division, working in particular with large faith-based and international charities.  He became an intelligence analyst in 2011, supporting the Commission’s investigative work, before becoming manager of the Outreach team in October 2012, speaking on a variety of different topics, including trustee duties and practical advice for faith-based, international and educational charities.  He was appointed as Head of Faith Charities Engagement in January 2017.
