This course is designed for all those who are church treasurers whether new to the role or just needing a refresher. It is also for those who support church treasurers and would like to know what is involved.
As a church treasurer, this course will equip you, whether you are a new or an experience treasurer, with the core knowledge needed to carry out your role.
By the end of this course (all three sessions), you will have been introduced to, and explored, the legal duties of trustees, day to day finance processes, fund accounting, types of charity accounts, budgeting and planning, gift aid and tax and year end reporting. You will be signposted to helpful resources and you will have had the opportunity to ask questions relevant to your context and about the areas covered.
The course comprises practical and theoretical information, insights and guidance on many aspects of the role of church treasurer. It is delivered by knowledgeable and experienced trainers, who have firsthand experience as church treasurers. They can answer your questions and concerns, enabling you to manage your church finances with greater confidence.
The course is an in-person course. You'll have the opportunity to interact with the speakers and get answers to your specific questions. Each delegate will be sent pre course materials in advance of the sessions.
This is an in-person, all day session from 10am until 4pm. Refreshments will be available on arrival, during the morning and afternoon breaks and a buffet lunch will be provided.

No prior knowledge is required. This course is designed to accommodate individuals with various levels of knowledge of church finance. It may be helpful to have some knowledge of the financial arrangements and processes in your own context.

For those needing step free access, please advise of any mobility issues as the venue needs notification to assist with access to the building. There is also a stairlift which can accommodate a wheelchair. Similarly, if you need a parking space because of mobility issues please advise.
Travel and Parking: We recommend, where possible, to use public transport to travel to the venue.
Mile End is the nearest tube station (5 mins walk). District, Hammersmith & City and Central lines. Please note there is no step free access from this station. Nearest step free stations are Bow Church (DLR), Stratford and Whitechapel, these are all then a short bus ride from Mile End.
Directions from Mile End station: Come out of the station and turn left, after about 10 yards turn left again. Go down this street and turn right at the first turning, there is a pub on the corner. At the end of this alley road turn left and the church is about 30 years down past the bus stop and next door to the post office. The main entrance door is on Burdett Road and is glass. It should take no more than 5 mins.
There is very limited on-street parking locally and no general parking at the venue.

Immanuel is a risk and safety management consultant with the consultancy firm Arthur D. Little. He studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge, where he met and married Julia prior to settling down in the area.
In his day job he works with clients across a range of sectors, primarily in rail transport and the oil and gas industry, specialising in risk modelling and assessment and safety management.
He has been treasurer of Eden Baptist Church in Cambridge since 2015, and has been an ACAT trainer since 2017, delivering general treasurer training as well as more specialised risk and safety courses. He holds a Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting with the AAT.
In his spare time he enjoys baking, ballroom dancing, occasionally standing in a supermarket foyer with a charity tin, attempting to learn German, and trying to self-teach his way to the Level 3 AAT qualification.
